Bryan in the historic Galveston Orphan Home. This building opened in 2015 and houses one of the world's largest collections of historical artifacts, documents and works of art related to Texas and the American West.The Harris County District Attorney's office in downtown Houston is home to a statue of Lady Justice. She appears with her eyes covered holding the scales of justice and a sword, ready to serve impartial justice for all. The collection began many years ago when Jerry Rubenstein, president of the board of directors of Texas Pipe & Supply, purchased a hippopotamus sculpture from a statue in El Campo, Texas, and placed it on the edge of the pipe tank.The Evelyn Rubenstein Memorial Garden is home to a 6,000-pound bronze sculpture depicting the tea party scene in Alice in Wonderland.
This garden was established as part of Commissioner Ellis' efforts to disseminate public works of art throughout Harris County. The Ensemble Theater, located in Midtown and established in 1976, is one of the only professional theaters in the Southwest dedicated to preserving African-American artistic expression. Director Jimoh Buraimoh, a Nigerian painter and artist, installed this artwork as part of this effort.Harris County is home to many sculptures that tell stories about its history and culture.
